The Soo Greyhounds are on fire! They've just dominated the Kitchener Rangers with a shutout victory, showcasing incredible teamwork and goaltending prowess. This win comes on the heels of another impressive performance against the Windsor Spitfires, making it a truly remarkable road trip.
Fresh off a win against the Windsor Spitfires, the Greyhounds brought their A-game to Kitchener's Memorial Auditorium. The final score? A resounding 4-0 shutout, marking their third consecutive win!
The second period was where the Greyhounds truly shined, outshooting the Rangers 10-5 and scoring three crucial goals. Coach John Dean called it the most complete period of the season, highlighting their offensive creativity and puck management. "We got to the blue paint. We managed the puck exceptionally well. It was just a very complete 20 minutes," he added.
On the other hand, the Rangers' coach, Jussi Ahokas, was visibly disappointed, particularly with his team's discipline. He noted the impact of penalties, especially the two goals scored during a four-on-four situation. Discipline, or lack thereof, proved to be a key factor.
Landon Miller, the Greyhounds' goaltender, was the star of the show, earning his fifth career shutout. Dean praised Miller's performance, highlighting his crucial saves throughout the game. Miller's consistency and calm demeanor have been instrumental in the team's success.
Dean's decision to start Miller in back-to-back games was a testament to his exceptional play. Miller himself acknowledged the team's strong performance in front of him, boosting his confidence. "The boys are playing well in front of me and it’s making my job a lot easier and I’m there to make a big save when we need it,” he stated.
Defenceman Chase Reid echoed the team's confidence, while also emphasizing the importance of staying humble. Reid's two goals in the second period set the stage for the Greyhounds' dominance.
Reid's goals, including one during a four-on-four play, showcased the team's ability to capitalize on opportunities. Jordan Charron added another goal, and Marco Mignosa sealed the deal with an empty-net goal.
Reid finished with two goals and an assist, while Mignosa had a goal and an assist. Miller's impressive performance included 18 saves, while the Rangers' goalie, Kirsch, made 17 saves.
The Greyhounds' record now stands at 14-8-1-0. The team is set to wrap up their road trip against the London Knights.
