In a remarkable turn of events, Michael Gunning has been located after an extensive search operation that involved aerial surveillance across two sites nearly 20 miles apart. This incident began on Boxing Day when the 29-year-old was last seen around 2:30 PM on Bridge Street in Loddon, prompting immediate action from local authorities.
As night fell, the National Police Air Service (NPAS) deployed their distinctive black and yellow aircraft to scour the areas of Loddon, where Mr. Gunning resides, as well as Bowthorpe and Costessey, situated to the northwest across Norwich. The police confirmed on Saturday that Mr. Gunning had been found, although they did not disclose the specifics regarding his location or the circumstances of his discovery.
The NPAS plane, which took off from East Midlands Airport around 6 PM on Boxing Day, was spotted circling over Loddon, Chedgrave, Thurton, and Langley at approximately 7:30 PM. After conducting several loops in this vicinity, the aircraft proceeded towards Norwich, where it again circled above Costessey and Bowthorpe at about 8 PM.
This is not the first time Michael Gunning has gone missing. Earlier this year, on April 5, he was reported missing from Loddon, triggering a comprehensive search effort that included helicopter support and even a search boat navigating the River Chet, alongside officers performing door-to-door inquiries. Fortunately, he was found safe two days later, on April 7.
This latest incident raises important questions about safety measures and community support during such critical times. How can we better assist in similar situations? What improvements can be made in search operations? These are discussions worth having, and we encourage you to share your thoughts in the comments.
