Measles is making a comeback, and the numbers are a bit alarming. Five new cases of this highly contagious disease have been confirmed, with the spread spanning both the North and South Islands. This news should prompt us to pay close attention.
The recent cases are distributed as follows: one in Dunedin, three in Auckland, and one in Waikato.
Te Whatu Ora reports that these new cases bring the total number of known cases nationwide since October 8th to 27. Fortunately, 22 of these individuals are no longer infectious.
"This increase in cases is concerning and demonstrates the highly contagious nature of measles," stated Te Whatu Ora.
As we approach the summer holiday season, it's more important than ever to ensure you and your family are protected. Te Whatu Ora is urging everyone to check their immunisation status and get the MMR vaccination if necessary.
But here's where it gets controversial... While vaccination is the key defense, some people still hesitate. What are your thoughts on the MMR vaccine? Do you have any concerns or questions about it? Share your perspective in the comments below!
