Lawyer Death Threat: Police Await MCMC Report to Identify Suspect (2026)

A Bold Concern: Police Seek MCMC Help to Identify Blogger Behind Lawyer’s Death Threat

PETALING JAYA — Authorities are still awaiting a report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) that could help pinpoint the person who allegedly issued a death threat toward a lawyer representing the families of three men shot dead in Melaka.

Selangor’s police chief Shazeli Kahar explained that statements from the lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, along with several other individuals, have been recorded to support the investigation, according to Bernama.

“We have asked MCMC to assist in obtaining the profile of the individual who posted the threatening remark, and we are awaiting their response,” he said at a Shah Alam press conference.

The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (improper use of network facilities or services).

Previously, Petaling Jaya’s police chief Shamsudin Mamat stated that Rajesh filed a report after reading a comment from an unknown person on a social media post. The comment, which contained elements that could be construed as a death threat, was believed to be connected to a case Rajesh is handling.

Initially, Melaka police treated the November 24 shooting as a case of attempted murder, with state police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar asserting that the three men were serial robbers who had attacked a policeman with a parang.

However, lawyers representing the families of M Puspanathan (21), T Poovaneswaran (24), and G Logeswaran (29) contend that audio recordings and forensic evidence point to an execution-style killing.

Bukit Aman’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took charge of the case after the families submitted a police report.

Rajesh has called for the officers involved to be suspended and urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to establish a special task force and announce a royal commission of inquiry into the incident, signaling a demand for greater accountability and transparency in the investigation."
